Updating the Charlotte Motor Speedway

Every May, 200,000 race fans travel to the Charlotte Motor Speedway for 2 weeks, watching miles of exciting, tailgate-flying action! We have been fortunate to work on the Charlotte Motor Speedway with our valued customer, Queen City Waterproofing, over the years to ensure it is 100 percent watertight!

Recently, Queen City Waterproofing had to update the waterproofing and replace the custom Pecora SilSpan on the speedway. From color selection to installing the custom color, Queen City Waterproofing only had three weeks to perform and complete the work in order to meet the deadline before the Nascar events kicked off for the year.

Kenseal Sales Representative, James Duncan, has worked closely with Lynn Andreason of Queen City Waterproofing over the years and provided superior service to help keep this project running smoothly.

Lynn claims, “getting the materials on time and learning about products I’m not aware of,” is the best part about working with Kenseal and James.

The Monumental City

On July 4, 1815, Baltimoreans envisioned and commenced the first public monument to George Washington, former President of the United States. This National Historic Landmark, an important symbol of the city, had appeared every bit of its age of nearly 200 years with plaster chips and deteriorating mortar.  In 2010, the once leading Baltimore tourist attraction was closed to the public after an engineering study commissioned by the Mount Vernon Place Conservancy, declared the monument unsafe for visitors.

Located at the center of one of the most beautiful urban spaces in America, this treasure underwent a multimillion dollar restoration to redeem its prominence in Baltimore tourism.

Kenseal Construction Products is proud to have supported aspects of these repairs. A Kenseal Sales Representative supplied Sikacrete 211 SCC Plus to a valued customer who focuses on historic building restoration and was awarded this project. The Monument is located in our Headquarters and Baltimore location’s backyard and improved our neighborhood’s vitality by reopening a place that people care about and want to visit. We were honored to supply a specialty construction product to help make this happen.

The work, including restoration, repainting, cleaning, waterproofing, electrical work, new lighting and a new fence, was completed on time for the monument’s bicentennial on Independence Day in 2015.

Renewal to Harvard’s Dunster House

The Dunster House was the first undergraduate residence to undergo complete reconstruction as part of Harvard’s comprehensive housing renewal program. Built in 1930, Dunster is one of the oldest of Harvard’s houses and is located on the banks of the Charles River. The new design has expanded the social and common spaces, offering many new amenities for the students.

Located just 6 miles from the Harvard University campus, Kenseal Construction Products was a convenient and reliable choice to supply specialty construction products to the job. Our knowledgeable sales team partnered with key manufacturing reps and offered their industry expertise to multiple subcontractors on the project.

Liam McGowan, Kenseal Sales Representative, and Brian Centofanti, Kenseal Sales Manager, connected with Tom Lane, a manufacturing representative for Prosoco, to supply FastFlash (part of the Prosoco R-GUARD® family) to a valued customer. This liquid flashing membrane offers superior durability, easier installation and can be applied to rough openings of structural walls making it a sound choice for the project and great recommendation by Tom.

In addition, Kenseal Sales Representative, Jeff Fuccillo, helped a valued customer overcome a challenge in their scope of work. The window perimeters required significant joint backing due to the wide range of openings in the masonry. The team needed to find a solution for what would otherwise be challenging and laborious installation. With the help of the Pecora rep, Shaun Wentworth, the team devised a plan involving Pecora’s new XL Span and new Air Vapor Barrier Silicone. Being an extruded pre-cured silicone non-adhesive “tape,” the XL Span spanned all of the irregular openings saving a significant amount of time for our customer.

The WakeMed North Healthplex expands!

Creating 500 construction jobs and employing 441 full-time people, the WakeMed North Hospital provides a significant boost to the community’s economy.

In 2011, WakeMed broke ground on an expansion project of their North Healthplex creating the fifth hospital in Wake County – WakeMed North Hospital. The full-service hospital is a 248,800 sq. ft., 61-bed women’s hospital designed with the unique needs of women in mind. The hospital also continues to serve men and children through the facility’s existing emergency department and outpatient surgery, rehabilitation, imaging, lab and physicians services.

Kenseal was proud to supply specialty construction products to a loyal customer for this expansion project. Kenseal Sales Representative Becca Turbeville worked closely with SECO Architectural Systems’ moisture control and construction division. With the guidance of a Tremco Commercial Sealants and Waterproofing representative, Kenseal provided the below and above grade waterproofing, insulation and air and vapor barrier.

“Working with Kenseal on the WakeMed North project was a pleasure. I got together with Becca early on and let her know what I anticipated our material requirements to be and she made it happen,” said Tom Wilson, Division Manager Moisture Control, SECO Architectural Systems, Inc., “We worked together to give WakeMed a complete Tremco system above grade. This may have sealed the deal for SECO in getting this very important project. Throughout the project Becca kept up with our material needs and made sure Kenseal had what we needed in stock. I look forward to the next project that we can work together on. Kenseal is SECO’s preferred material supplier in North Carolina!”

Christopher Newport’s Student Success Center

The final project on the Great Lawn at Christopher Newport University was the 80,000+ square-foot Student Success Center, which serves students from registration to graduation. The new building provides space for admission, financial aid, the registrar’s office and the center for career planning– acting as a one-stop shop for student services, which had been scattered across campus. With a center courtyard providing natural light for the offices, the finished structure is silver rated certified by Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).

Kenseal Construction Products had the opportunity to work on this new building throughout the entire project. Working hand-in-hand with multiple subcontractors, Kenseal Sales Representative Katie Chapple and the Kenseal team provided materials for multiple stages– including the air barrier system and joint sealants. Throwback to Making History!

Back in 2014, Kenseal Construction Products became the first distributor in the U.S.A. to complete an Ultra Wall & LiquidArmor™-CM Flashing and Sealant job!

Brian Heil, Kenseal Sales Representative, worked closely with a valued customer to fulfill their construction needs for the Manor South Senior Housing Facility. This ninety-unit development located within the Park Heights neighborhood of Baltimore provides much needed affordable housing for seniors. The four-story elevator building includes a community room, computer room, laundry facilities, onsite social services for residents, and one-bedroom and two-bedroom units available to seniors ages sixty-two and older earning sixty percent or less of the area’s medium income.

This construction project took advantage of Dow’s Ultra Air Barrier Wall System – a system that reduces critical-path construction time helping to keep jobs on schedule. Dow’s Styrofoam™ Cavitymate Ultra insulation paired with LiquidArmor™ – CM Flashing and Sealant, all supplied by Kenseal, provided the needed air and vapor barrier control layers to enhance building performance and reduce energy load.

“This is evidence of our growing partnership and success after numerous training sessions and meetings. I immensely appreciate Kenseal’s support,” said Adam McMurtrey, LEED Green Associate, Building Envelope Specialist, Dow Building Solutions.

Kenseal is proud to have serviced the first U.S.A. Ultra Wall & LiquidArmor™-CM Job and is thankful for the support from Adam and the Dow Chemical team.

Renovating Pier 4 in the Navy Yard

The Navy Yard is a dynamic, sustainable urban campus that arose from the remarkable transformation of the former Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. Home to a thriving 1200 acre business campus with 143 companies occupying office, industrial/manufacturing, and research and development space, the Navy Yard has reemerged as one of the region’s most important centers of employment.

Pier 4 of the Navy Yard sits in the shadows of the USS John F. Kennedy Aircraft Carrier. The 90-year old pier held tirelessly strong for many years through tough winters and rough seas. Over time the pier slowly lost stability and was in need of a major renovation. The construction project included replacing a significant portion of the deck, piles and structural elements in order to accommodate naval carriers in the future.

A Kenseal sales representative from our Philadelphia team met with a subcontractor on the job site to understand the project’s demands for their scope of work. With the customer’s best interest in mind, Kenseal reached out to several key manufacturer representatives to find an economical alternative to the product originally specified for the job. Our connections in the industry enabled us to find products with quick delivery and an added bonus of a significant cost savings.

A School Unlike Any Other

Kellam High School, one of the oldest schools in Virginia Beach, VA, underwent a very unique redesign. The $100 million project included a new, two-level school featuring a main library, a courtyard equipped with a waterfall and garden, new sports facilities, enlarg
ed hallways for collaborative work environments and much more. From the beginning, the 2,000-student school was envisioned as a prototype for 21st century learning. Teachers and students helped in the design process, collaboratively designing the school from the inside out to support and facilitate a new challenge-based learning curriculum.

Kenseal Construction Products was honored to work hand-in-hand with a local subcontractor on this remarkable educational facility. The preliminary stages of the project finished ahead of schedule and our valued customer needed products quickly to fulfill their scope of work. Kenseal Sales Representative, Katie Chapple, supplied color samples of materials without delay and expedited shipments of glass and glazing and waterproofing products to the job site. Our fast and efficient approach resulted in the timely completion of the large project.

We are proud to carry the top brands in waterproofing, glass and glazing, restoration, the building envelope and more. Let’s take a look into a recent project where Kenseal was on the job-site from the ground up!

The Chester Charter School broke ground on their new campus in mid-2016. The former location of the school could not accommodated the growth expected for the student population after the 2017 school year. The new campus sits on 11 acres of land in the City of Chester and is designed specifically for the school’s integrated-arts program. The building will include two classrooms for each grade K-12, break-out reading rooms on every floor, a regulation gymnasium, a multi-media/computer lab, science laboratories, dance and art studios and a cafetorium.

Kenseal Construction Products worked closely with valued customers on the waterproofing and glass and glazing scopes of work for the new building. Our customers utilized Henry Air-bloc® 17, Henry Air-bloc® LF™, and Pecora 895 silicone sealant which are in-stock and readily available at Kenseal Philadelphia.

Looking for an Air Vapor Barrier Assembly Compatible with NFPA 285? We Have What You Need!

With over 35 years experience in the industry, Kenseal Construction Products’ knowledgeable sales team has the answers to your greatest challenges.

Kenseal Sales Representative, Jeff King, worked closely with Gleeson Powers to supply materials for a construction project in Webster, MA. The valued customer was tasked with an air barrier and sealant project at Park Ave Elementary, a three-story school accommodating PK-12 students. The scope of work posed some obstacles. Initially, Gleeson Powers submitted a product that did not meet the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) 285 code, and was rejected.

The customer then reached out to Kenseal to find a product compatible with the NFPA 285 standard. Jeff connected with The Henry Company and found a solution for the wall assembly – Henry® Blueskin® SA Membrane, Henry® Air Bloc® 32, and Henry® Metal Clad, an assmbly approved by NFPA 285. Kenseal’s relationships in the industry and dedication to solving the problem at hand saved our customer both time and money.
